Thailand's PEACE broken by COWARDICE

Democracy is a tricky business, with the key word being business.

Living in Thailand has greatly increased my happiness quotient, I am rarely stressed as people here find lovely ways to avoid becoming too serious, and I am rarely on edge for the potential of violence. As an American I've always lived with the idea that random acts of violence can occur at anytime and anywhere. My nation's headlines read like a civil war, with body counts eclipsing many wars from other parts of the world. It's rare to meet an American who hasn't been affected by violence in their school or community in some form or another. But maybe, when all is said and done, we learn what to look for, what might be coming and we anticipate, defuse, avoid and survive with skills acquired  in our public schools' locker rooms and lunchrooms.

But there is no preparation or martial arts training that can defend you from the cowardice and senselessness of random acts of  violence done with explosives from a remote location. Victims are unlucky, they are not targeted so much as snared in a net set to splash headlines and video screens crimson; and the bodies that lay broken in frame are nothing more than a means to their delusional end.

The road going forward for Thailand will be difficult, but this Kingdom is -- and perhaps this is it's greatest strength -- resilient. Residents of  Thailand will begin the process of justice, rebuilding and moving towards the future with all the love and positivity that I have grown to respect over my many years living here.

So Alberto my WORLD  OF THE DEATHSTICK artist and I decided to join the Webtoons SCI-FI contest, but of course neither of us had time for this. The contest was slammed with nearly 100 great comics competing for a grand prize of $30,000 dollars. We artists are a poor lot and no one should wave such a carrot in front of us, nearly everyone took the month off from their usual production to take their talents into space.

We got off to a slow start and by the time other comics had acquired multiple votes we were still trying to get up our first batch of pages.

Sadly I really like the character we created, and when I say we I mean Alberto, with my only really telling attribute being the electric pulse between his protruding antennas.

We did not make it into the round of 16,  but I am leaving it up on WEBTOONS for a while while we figure out what to do with it.

Wong Fu from YOUTUBE channel to Indeagogo funded Vimeo feature

Wong Fu's First Feature

     So if your not familiar with Wong Fu's Youtube channel then you probably don't enjoy short films because they have been producing good little romantic comedies for many years now. The interesting thing here is about the process Wong Fu is going through. There videos get millions of hits, they have thousands of fans and now they are putting their style and method to work on a feature. I can't speak to whether the film is good or not, although I usually enjoy their short films so I would expect that this is good, but I think we may be seeing the future of independent film.
     Not so many years ago the only way to work in film was to pay your does in major studios and hope your networking skills and actual creative skills found the illusive opportunity those studios offered. But with many independent productions rivaling and exceeding some of the studio produced work the industry just may be about to change. It won't happen over night, because the studio money allows them to cast STARS and these actors mean dollars at the box office and anything that releases to internet sales will not see box office at all. Still with extremely reduced filming budgets the need for huge returns are not there; furthermore, Vimeo is offering film makers outside the studio system to show what they can do with very little and perhaps they will end up absorbed by those studios in much the same way TV directors were back a few decades ago.
     I think it is very interesting and I am really curious just how productions like this may be paving the way for independent film makers all over the world.
